Now that the birthday boy is sound asleep...soundly asleep...I am happy to share some photos and movies from his first birthday celebration. For Chris and me, this anniversary of Owen's birth was truly a joyous one. He has brought so much laughter and love into our lives in this last year; we couldn't imagine life being any different, or better than it is right now! Everywhere we go, Owen's bubbly and sweet personality touches people around us, whether it is family, friends, or strangers in the grocery store.
Just this past week, we had a friend come and babysit for the first time. She wanted to see how it would go before promising any more availability to us for the future. When we got home from dinner, she was just beaming, and said, "Call me anytime...he was great!"
We had such a fun time today. We had an open house, and many relatives and friends joined us on a sunny and moderate day out on our sunporch. There was lemon cake, and chili burgers, and fruit salad, and munchies. Owen was a little unsure about the lemon cake; I think because no one had ever handed him such a large hunk of anything, expecting him to eat it! (I wondered what Chris was thinking with that big piece!) but once Owen got started, he was quite content to squeeze the cake into his hands, and push it into his mouth. I'm sure those stains will come out of that cute birthday outfit, Grammy Crystal and Grammy Retta...
As the hour is getting late, I will post more pictures in the morning. Mama and Dada are pooped too...and we have earned an hour to crash on the couch and watch "Lost" this evening. Until tomorrow!

It is Prom night in Cedar Rapids, but we had a better party to go to! OWEN'S FIRST BIRTHDAY! WOW! Owen is One! Owen is #1! There was quite a large turnout for Master Boone's 1st Birthday Party. Someday you will have to explain to Owen that 10x the # of people attending his party will be watching on the Internet and singing too....(they just won't get any cake, but it looks like he won't let any go to waste).

Owen did look a little anxious when so many people standing behind his chair & out of sight, suddenly start chanting while Dad insisted on blowing out the sacred flame. [Thoughts raced through Owen's mind, 'What's the deal with the candle? It's daylight... we don't need more light. Candle heat is negligible, unless you actually touch it- and I won't do that again soon!! I am sure the electricity is still in the walls behind the switchplates. ...Why is the candle over the food rather than under it? Is the colored frosting heating the candle? It just made no sense. And then the noise from all sides- it was awful! What's going to happened NEXT?') It was at that moment that Owen learned one of life's great lessons: Cake can overcome FEAR! Cake in hand always triumphs over unseen fears. ("We can do Fear anytime, But Cake must be enjoyed when it is here. Cake does not keep. Today We Eat CAKE!")

Owen maybe be One- but thanks to Mom & Dad's technical expertise with camera and the internet- We have ALL WON! 'Cause we got to come to Owen's Birthday Party!! Thank you.
